driving revenue through marketing + mobile strategy

MobileCampBoston3: Debrief

Boston’s third MobileCamp on 3 April was educational and entertaining enough to keep 250+ people inside MIT on a gorgeous sunny Saturday (that also happened to be the first day of iPad sales). Thanks to Keith Erskine of PadPaw for organizing it. http://barcamp.org/MobileCampBoston3

Topics covered a wide range from Verizon’s new approach to supporting the developer community, mobile coupons & ticketing, best practices for selling apps, android developer hints, fundraising for start-ups and iPad demos (a Globe reporter seemed most interested in this topic).

I co-presented a session on Mobile Urban Transformation with Nigel Jacob, Sr. Advisor for Emerging Technology for the City of Boston. We shared some of the exciting mobile developments in cities across Europe and the States (Barcelona’s Urban Lab, augmented reality shopping pilots in Geneva, Florida Diamond District’s community mobile marketing campaign, Vancouver’s mobile cultural collaboration, Helsinki’s Forum Virium Helsinki, etc).

Nigel shared the City of Boston’s approach to integrating mobile technology into city services (discrete projects that make an immediate difference in a community and can be rolled out for broader impact if warranted) and announced the City’s plans for a new innovation district slated for the waterfront that will have similarities to Barcelona’s @22.

In the spirit of social media integration into the mobile world (Wilson Kerr @WLLK  of Location Based Strategy  held a popular session on this topic) several bloggers kept the world updated on the day’s activities. Check out #mcb3  for news from the event and here is Michael Grover’s post & video on the Mobile Urban Transformation session and link to his excellent blog. http://post.ly/XWne

    Congratulations!

I guess the international view helps all participating parties and widens their views!

I am looking forward to maybe get a personal update on some of the European approaches…
